Flying Side by Side: The Bendali Twins' Story
Meet Aya and Maria Bendali, the twin sisters taking the aviation world by storm at Nordic Aviation Group. At 20 years old, they share an incredible journey filled with dreams and adventures. Let's take a peek into their world.
Living in Copenhagen with their family, Aya and Maria's story is all about being together. Both love travelling and playing handball, showing how close they are. "We're more than sisters; we're best friends," they share. Whether exploring new places or playing sports, they do everything with a smile.
Looking forward, the twins see a bright future in aviation. They're determined to become pilots someday, a dream that's grown stronger with every flight. "This is just the start for us," they say, eyes shining with ambition.
- Can you introduce yourselves and share a bit about your life outside of Nordic Aviation Group?
We're Aya and Maria, 20-year-old twins from Copenhagen, living with our mom and brother. As twins, we're not just sisters; we're best friends, sharing everything life throws our way with laughter and unity. Our passion for travel is a huge part of who we are, taking us from European cities to exotic islands, experiencing new cultures and cuisines. Besides travelling, we're also into sports, especially handball, which has been a part of our lives for over 16 years.
- How did you find your way into the aviation industry?
After finishing high school, we applied for jobs without any specific career path in mind. The idea of working as cabin crew members hadn't occurred to us until we stumbled upon the opportunity. It was a pleasant surprise that filled us with joy. Aviation has always been a cherished dream for both of us, with aspirations of becoming pilots. So, when we were accepted, it felt like a dream come true. Being cabin crew members is something we both truly enjoy; we have a genuine love for our work and feel grateful for the chance we've been given.
During our childhood, our mother often took us plane spotting near CPH airport. We would spend hours there, captivated by the planes taking off and landing. It sparked a dream of one day living that lifestyle ourselves. These experiences fueled our passion for aviation from a young age and inspired us to pursue careers in the industry.
- Did you start your aviation careers together? How did it affect your studies?
Yes, we took a year off together to work and save money for our pilot licenses, aiming to start our aviation careers together.
- How does working together affect your teamwork and communication on the plane?
Although we haven't had the chance to fly together as crew members yet, we've completed our advanced training together and look forward to flying together soon. We believe our unique sibling bond will enhance our teamwork and communication on board.
- How do you balance your professional and personal relationship as siblings?
Effective communication is crucial for us, especially in maintaining a balance between our professional and personal relationship. We're looking forward to working together and leveraging our understanding of each other to excel in our jobs.
- Supporting each other in a high-stress environment: how do you do it?
We're always there for each other, staying in close contact and supporting one another in daily tasks, whether it's packing or styling hair.
- Any memorable flights you've experienced together?
While we haven't worked on a flight together, I (Aya) had the chance to see Maria work during a flight. It was incredibly moving to see her fulfil her dreams and excel in her role, which was a proud and memorable moment for me.
- Do you see your future in the aviation industry?
Certainly, both of us could never envision ourselves outside of the aviation industry. This year of flying has only reassured our certainty that this is where we belong. As mentioned earlier, our ultimate dream is to become pilots.
